Receipt Vouchers
A Receipt Voucher is a formal document that records cash or bank receipts — money coming into your business. It is the income-side counterpart to a Payment Voucher, and serves as an official acknowledgment that a payment was received.
When to Use a Receipt Voucher
- Receiving cash from a customer
- Recording a customer advance payment
- Receiving petty cash reimbursements
- Any receipt that requires a formal printed acknowledgment
How to Create a Receipt Voucher
- Go to Accounting → Receipt Vouchers
- Click New Receipt Voucher
- Fill in the details
- Click Save
Receipt Voucher Fields

Downloading the Receipt Voucher as PDF
Click Download on the voucher page. The PDF is formatted as a formal receipt document including:
- Company logo and name
- Voucher number and date
- Received from (payer name)
- Line item breakdown
- Total amount (in figures and words)
- Signature line for the receiver
What Happens in the Books
When a receipt voucher is saved:
- The bank / cash account is debited (money comes in)
- The specified income / receivable account is credited
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a receipt voucher to record payment against an invoice?
A receipt voucher is a standalone document — it doesn't directly reduce an invoice balance the way a Received Payment does. For proper invoice matching, use Record Payment on the invoice. The receipt voucher is primarily for situations where a formal printed receipt document is needed.
Is a receipt voucher the same as an official receipt?
In practice, yes. It serves as your company's official acknowledgment that money was received. It can be handed or emailed to the customer as proof of payment.
Can I create a receipt voucher in a foreign currency?
Yes. Select the appropriate currency and enter the exchange rate. The system records the transaction in both the foreign and base currency.
